I’ve just ended a phone conversation with Veliani, one of the designers for Parco’s nextNext collection, also a contributor for our virgin issue (coming soon) for a very murderous feature.

What is next Next you ask? next Next is a Parco collaboration with 25 Singaporean fresh fashion designers. Which is developed from the concept of having different Japanese designers at Parco Shibuya. I was there last February, and it was really fun seeing different interpretations of fashion under this one roof. The store houses Japanese designers like Limi Feu, Y’s, Merci Beaucoup, and also international designers like Bernhard Willhelm, Anna Sui, Miu Miu and et cetra.

Singapore is an urban city that is a melting pot of different cultures, with a diverse selection of designers. Perhaps the cultural diversity of Singapore is the reason why Parco chose to develop a similar concept here.

Finally a chance for local creatives to showcase their work and perhaps be placed on parallels on global platforms.

So yes, the phone conversation. I’ve been in the same level as Veli when we were in the first year of fashion at Lasalle, College of the arts. So I called her to ask her about her show. In school, she’s been known to be a perfectionist, that is why it is no surprise that the poor girl told me she still has work overnight to perfect her look!

Her collection is a continuation of her last graduation collection, which is mainly constructed of natural textiles. During the phone conversation, she mentioned that she’ll be introducing a vinyl-like textile for tomorrow’s show, seems like a rather interesting juxtaposition of textures.

This picture almost looks like a film-still from a David Lynch movie, with the blinded woman running away from darkness. Perhaps she was escaping from her own nightmares? However, the pair of gloves looks almost murderous, assimilable to that of a serial killer’s?
